Books

Tim Ellsworth shares a list of 9 books, each under specific categories. I'm a sucker for lists, so I'll share mine, and hope some of you will share yours. I'll throw in a 10th category, as well (#7).

1. One book that changed your life: besides the Bible, I'd have to say "Desiring God" by John Piper.

2. One book that you have read more than once: "What's So Amazing About Grace?" by Philip Yancey

3. One book that you would want on a desert island: I can't even pretend to choose anything other than the Bible.

4. One book that made you laugh: "The Big Show: A Tribute to ESPN's SportsCenter" by Keith Olbermann and Dan Patrick.

5. One book that made you cry: "End of the Spear" by Steve Saint.

6. One book that you wish would have been written: "Dynasty: The Atlanta Braves 14 Consecutive World Series Championships."

7. One book that you would like to write: "WDJD: How 'the Christian life' is about what Jesus did do rather than what He would do."

8. One book that you wish would have never been written: "Mein Kampf"? I don't know.

9. One book that you are currently reading: "Humility: True Greatness" by C.J. Mahaney.

10. One book you’ve been meaning to read: "The Pilgrim's Progress" by John Bunyan.

Okay, I'm long-winded and I LOVE to read, so...I may not stick to just ONE book in each category. (Shocker, I know!) Here goes:

1. Changed your life: besides the Bible..."Victory Over the Darkness" by Neil Anderson and "So You're Thinking About Homeschooling" by Lisa Welchel.

2. Read more than once: "Let the Children Come Along the Virtuous Way" by Gary and Anne Marie Ezzo

3. Want on a desert island: The Bible.

4. Made you laugh: "Sportin' a 'Tude" by Patsy Clairmont

5. Made you cry: "If God Should Choose: The Authorized Story of Jim and Roni Bowers" by Kristin Stagg, "In the Presence of My Enemies" by Gracia Burnham and Dean Merrill, and "A Walk to Remember" by Nicholas Sparks.

6. Wish would have been written: I'm combining this one w/ # 7 below - wish it had been written, would like to write it...

7. One book that you would like to write: "God's Sovereignty and His Grace; How They DO Go Together Perfectly and Make Up All That We Need for Life - Both Now and For Eternity."

8. Wish would have never been written: I think I'll refrain from this one and keep my opining to myself.

9. Currently reading: "Created to Be His Helpmeet" by Debi Pearl, "Transforming Grace" by Jerry Bridges.

10. Meaning to read: "The Pilgrim's Progress" by John Bunyan.

Thanks, JWD - this is interesting! Can you get your wife to answer these? I'd like to see her thoughts on the subject. ~J in the UK

I ain't much for book learnin. I read so slow and comprehend and remember so little that I read the paper in the morning, all morning, and I can't tell you what happened the next day. My self esteem is falling as we speak. I'm going to sue you Josh, you did this to me. I'm going to go read He Chose the Nails by Lucado. It has huge print so I feel like I'm flying through it.

JAD

ps- isn't it funny that Jodie and I like to put anonymous and sign off at the end of the message.

JAD - Is it just that you & Jodie are afraid of the "Other" identity? You're so closed-minded!
