I'm with Tim. I'm pretty sure the Constitution doesn't say it's okay to kill babies, so abortion should be outlawed. Can we get back to "government of the people, by the people, for the people," or was that Lincoln dude just an uninformed hatemonger? I'm tired of the courts and politicians thinking they are taking part in a monarchy, instead of serving the public.I’m glad to see that Albert Mohler has weighed in on the utter insanity coming from the California, where an appeals court ruled that parents must have teaching credentials to educate their children at home.
As part of the ruling, the court argued that “parents do not have a constitutional right to home school their children.”
So now the government is in the business of denying people rights that are not explicitly spelled out in the Constitution? I wonder when they’ll start cracking down on people eating Big Macs, because I don’t find that right in the Constitution, either.
As Mohler noted:
This is a controversy that demands the attention of all parents. After all, if parents have no constitutional right to educate their own children, what other aspects of the parent’s choices for their own children lack protection? This question reaches far beyond educational decisions.
UPDATE: The Home School Legal Defense Association has started a petition for the California Supreme Court to depublish the opinion handed down by the loonies on the appeals court. Please go and add your name to the list. This is serious business, my friends, and something that warrants your time — even if you do not home school your children.
If you care about family rights - whether it's homeschooling, or being able to take your kids to church, or being able to teach them right & wrong (or even that right & wrong actually exist), I'd encourage you to add your name to the petition.

Thanks for this. This case is one of many out there about which most of us would be shocked...rulings stating that parents relinquish their rights to have any say in the education of their children if they put them into public school, legislation written so that parents would have to submit their children to standardized testing by the state if they choose to homeschool, etc....
Just below the HSLDA petition you linked to, there is another link to www.parentalrights.org, where you can read more about (and participate in) what is being done to preserve and defend the rights of parents. I would love to live in a world where that would not be necessary. However, that is not the case. If international law becomes more prevalently accepted and used as precedent, then you won't only be outlawed from eating your own Big Macs, but your child will be able to sue you for not letting him eat Big Macs every day or hang out with his drug dealing friends. And he'll WIN!

Josh, you sound like a legalist.
I think making the homeshool kids take the achievement test is a good thing. It creates accountability for the parents and may help the parents know if their child is behind or ahead. In any case the test scores for homeschool and students who go to Bible school are higher. Bring on the test it shows that we are doing our job.
